Cruising from Tula’s home port in North Saanich Marina near Sidney, B.C., we sail in and around some of the premier cruising grounds in the world. From the Gulf Islands of British Columbia, Canada, and the San Juan Islands in Washington State, we cruise in the protected lee of Vancouver Island and the Olympic Peninsula. This is an uncrowded sailing paradise with warm, gentle breezes most of the year and line-of-sight travel through picturesque islands using careful, planned navigation principles.

Explore the Gulf Islands

There are over a dozen large islands lying between Vancouver Island and the mainland just north of Victoria, B.C. The area’s mild Mediterranean climate, sheltered bays, and dramatic coastlines make it a sailor’s paradise.

The Gulf Islands and surrounding ocean are rich with ecologically diverse with plants and sea life including Garry oaks, wild lilies, kelp beds, and orcas, the world’s largest dolphin.

Explore the Victoria/Sooke Area

Victoria is on the southern most tip of Vancouver Island and 30 minutes away from Tula’s home port in Sidney making it an easy detour before or after your sail on Tula.

Here you can find beautiful hiking trails, transient orca whales, and plenty of fishing to enjoy.

Explore Desolation Sound

Desolation Sound is a boater’s paradise. Sailors enjoy the beautiful views and calm waters throughout the year.

On the coast, sailors can explore the islands and coves that make up the shoreline. These warm waters are ideal for swimming and scuba diving due to the ecologically rich areas.

Explore B.C. Central Coast & Inside Passage

The Inside Passage is a coastal route for boats to travel throughout the Pacific North West Coast. This route extends from Southeastern Alaska throughout British Columbia into the Northwestern Washington State allowing sailors to avoid bad weather in the open ocean.

The Canadian Inside Passage extends for 40,000km of coastline sheltered from the Pacific winds and waves by the surrounding islands. The area is a highly popular tourist route because of the wildlife and opportunities for boating, fishing, and other outdoor activities.
