Peter Simpson and his wife, Michelle Forest, are the proud owners of SV Tula, a beautifully appointed 39′ Beneteau sailboat. Both experienced sailors, they now offer the opportunity for guests and students to join them on short ‘cruise & learn’ adventures in the Gulf Islands.

Peter purchased Tula in 2004, and has refitted her as an instructional vessel. It is his goal to bring his knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm for sailing to others.

We set sail from Tula’s home port at North Saanich Marina in Sidney, British Columbia, Canada.

After many years of sailing with others and dreaming of escaping on his own perfect sailboat, Peter bought the SV Tula, a 39′ Beneteau, in 2004. And she continues to inspire him!

The main salon is beautifully appointed with a large table for gathering around. There is a fully equipped galley for preparing all those great meals as well as three comfortable cabins, and a v-berth and two aft cabins, plus forward and aft heads.

Our Logistics Coordinator, Michelle regularly accompanies her husband Peter on Tula’s voyages. Our guests find that her warm and friendly personality makes everyone feel at home on board.

Michelle began her sailing career in various boats with her family on Lake Wabamun in Alberta. Sailing this typical Alberta lake with it’s fondness for sudden squalls gave Michelle a healthy respect for the power of nature.

Michelle has her Canadian Power Squadron qualification. She is comfortable at the helm in all kinds of conditions and does not flinch when the wind begins to blow.

A competent and careful voyage planner, Michelle ensures the comfort and well-being of all crew. It is her provisioning skills that result in the many delicious gourmet meals enjoyed on Tula.

Tula at anchor

Here's what previous sailing students are saying about TulaSAILING.

"During this time, I acquired an amazing amount of hands on experience and Peter's teaching style was clear and concise, making the entire sailing journey a comfortable learning environment. The Tula was well appointed, with lots of food, plenty of beverages and it was very relaxing to spend time on. Every port we anchored or moored at we took in the local scenery, a tour, or experienced local artistry. As I have never experienced anything like before in my life, Peter made this total immersion into sailing knowledgeable and very enjoyable. I would highly recommend Peter and how he offers practical and educational style of learning into the art of sailing to everyone and I plan on continuing my journey by taking the intermediate course next year."

"Overall rating and satisfaction was a '10'. Food quality was outstanding. Fresh salmon and seafood from local fisherman, very eclectic menu with different meals each day. Peter communicated and explained course material well. Would recommend to others. I'm on my 8th consecutive year going!"

"If you are looking for an amazing sailing instructor, look no further. Peter was a wonderful teacher and Tula was a comfortable, very well maintained, and easy to sail vessel. Peter was very calm and informative, which made our learning experience extremely enjoyable. Regarding our customer service experience, Peter completely outdid himself. We were extremely well fed and enjoyed sharing apres sailing drinks and stories while at anchor. Peter was also self aware enough to give my daughter and I some awesome daddy-daughter time. Thank you Peter, Tula, and Michelle (the provisioning extraordinaire)!!"
